Converters

Unix timestamp converter

Convert Unix time in seconds to a local date, and back.

Loading tool…

  1. 1 Paste a timestamp or pick a date.
  2. 2 Choose seconds or milliseconds if the guess is wrong.
  3. 3 Copy the timestamp or read the formatted time.

How it works

Unix time counts seconds since 00:00:00 UTC on 1 January 1970. Paste a timestamp to see the UTC time and your local time. Or pick a local date and time to get the timestamp. Values in milliseconds are detected when they are 13 digits, and you can force either unit.

Frequently asked questions

Why is the local time different from UTC?

Local time includes your time-zone offset. UTC does not. Both are shown so you can tell them apart.

What about dates before 1970?

Negative timestamps work in modern browsers for dates after the range JavaScript can represent, which is roughly year 275760 back to year −271821.
