Compound interest calculator

Project a lump sum with yearly, quarterly, or monthly compounding.

Loading tool…

  1. 1 Enter the principal.
  2. 2 Enter the annual rate and the years.
  3. 3 Choose how often interest compounds.
  4. 4 Compare the ending balance with the interest earned.

How it works

Compound interest adds interest back onto the balance. Enter the starting amount, the annual rate, the number of years, and how often interest is added. The result is the ending balance and the interest earned. It assumes no extra deposits and no withdrawals.

A = P × (1 + r / n)^(n × t)

Frequently asked questions

How is this different from the FD calculator?

The maths is the same family. The FD page is labelled for bank deposits and defaults to quarterly compounding, which is common in India.

Can I add a monthly contribution?

Use the SIP calculator for a fixed monthly contribution. This page is for a single lump sum.
