How it works

Paste a draft and read the counts beside it. Words are split on whitespace. Characters are counted with and without spaces. Sentences are split on periods, question marks, and exclamation marks, which means abbreviations can be counted as extra sentences. Reading time uses 200 words a minute.

Do line breaks count as words?

No. Words are groups of characters separated by whitespace.

Why is the sentence count sometimes high?

Dots inside abbreviations such as “Dr.” are treated as sentence endings.
