How it works

Search results cut off long titles and descriptions. This page counts characters and flags a practical range: about 50–60 characters for a title and 140–160 for a description. Google actually cuts by pixel width, which depends on the letters, so a short count can still wrap and a long one can sometimes fit. Write for humans first, then use the count as a guardrail.

Frequently asked questions

Will this rank the page?

No. It only measures length. Ranking depends on the page, the query, and how other pages answer it.

Why pixels and not just characters?

A “W” is wider than an “i”. Character counts are a useful proxy, not the exact cut Google uses.
